Mountains of Hope Location
Geographic AreaMpigi is found in Mawokota Sub-county, south of Mawokota County along Masaka-Kampala high way, in Mpigi District in the central region of Uganda. The area is traversed with the Equator at approximately 00 C and 310E at an altitude between 1200 and 1400 meters above sea level. It covers an area of between 328.34. Sq. Km 2 with a total population of 30,930 people. Mpigi district lies along the traffic routes that make up the trans-African highway that links Mombasa to Burundi, Rwanda, Eastern DRC and northern Tanzania. The thriving of prostitution in Mpigi like most towns located along the highway led to a high prevalence and incidence of HIV/AIDS in the community, parents died leaving their children to suffer, children were poorly fed, could not go to school, etc. |
