Mountains of Hope Founder and Director

Mountains of Hope began with the vision of one man; James Malinga.

James is an Etesot born from the eastern side of Uganda in Bukedea district-Malera Sub County, who went to the central region of Uganda for studies. While in the central he always came in contact with children whose parents died because of HIV/AIDS in Mpigi district.

In 2005 James, as a social worker, came in touch with an orphan girl who had lost her parents due to HIV/AIDS, She introduced herself and said that she was battered and abandoned by the person who took care of her after the death of her parents, Unable to care for the child himself, James asked, a work mate who was a female to help shelter the girl as he paid for her school fees, scholastic materials and medical care.

This encounter was a turning point for James. He began building an organization dedicated to helping Ugandan orphan children and in 2005 Mountains of Hope was born. The first child sponsorship program began In 2008 as a result of the help of a United States of America student attending the University of Nazarene, Liz Abfall. She and her family responded to the needs of hundreds of thousands of orphans.

James started a nursery and day care centre at the orphanage to help raise funds for feeding the children and for their medication.

James is married to Lilian and has one son, Asher. Asher sacrificed his daily milk and juice for the orphan children. He accepted to go without milk and juice for the sake of the orphans; he refused to sleep on the bed because the orphans were sleeping on the ground. James, Lilian and Asher's constant prayer is always that their hearts be broken by the things that break the heart of God.
